Course Description:

This is a course that will help both students with or without drawing experience.? We will use a meditative approach to learn drawing from observation.? We will draw all types of subject matter, and work both outside and inside, depending on weather.

The methods of teaching are well proven, and oriented to learning how to allow the hand to slowly record what the eye perceives, without naming the thing to be drawn (ie: a portrait, a leaf, a tree etc.).? Using a techniques found in books like ?The Zen of Seeing? or ?Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain?, we will first start drawing only looking at the object being drawn, and not the drawing itself.? This method stops the ?judgement of ?good? or ?bad? in the brain and puts the emphasis on SEEING.

Slowly we will transition into looking at our drawings from time to time, always putting more attention on the object being drawn (as this is where the information is).? This is done in silently (needed for drawing) and very slowly.? This process slows down the whole body and mind and brings focus and peace to the drawing experience.

Technical aspects of drawing can slowly be incorporated into this method.? Concepts of perspective, light, cross-hatching techniques, composition, and positive/negative spaces are touched upon to increase drawing accuracy and create more original works.

The course usually has the effect of helping individuals acquire a new way of looking at and appreciating everything that we see.
